Nothing is better than music. When it takes us out of time, it has done more for us than we have the right to hope for.

Nadia Boulanger

Performing, both individually and with small groups and in larger ensembles with friends is at the heart of all we offer and this is why music flourishes at JCG.

There are choirs and instrumental ensembles of all types available to students enabling a rich variety of music to exist across the genres at JCG.

We currently have a Chamber and String Orchestra, a Chamber Choir, a Concert Band, a Musical Theatre Club as well as brass and flute ensembles. On a Wednesday morning students are invited to participate in a weekly Piano Lounge whereby they perform polished pieces as background music to soothe and inspire students as they arrive at College. This is unique to us at JCG and is a highlight of the week for students, staff and the wider College community.

In addition, we run a Theory Club three times a week, and a composition club on a Friday.

There is also an annual House Music competition incorporating individual, ensemble, composition, and Whole House Choir performances. Students and ensembles are encouraged to perform in the Eisteddfod, in the island’s Young Musician of the Year competition, in seasonal concerts, and in our biannual musical production.

At Christmas we provide Carols by the gates, performed by our brass ensemble.

We collaborate with our feeder prep school, JCP, and engage in important musical outreach at Care Homes.
