Digital Tools & Policy
Cele
Promote a distraction free, safe and focused environment for learning, with clearly defined expectations where students learn and demonstrate positive digital behaviours.
How
a. Digital Tools
Reduce distraction and promote focus using Jamf School
- We promote a distraction free and focused learning environment by ensuring that student iPads only have access to the apps required for learning during the school day.
- To achieve this, we enrol iPads on a mobile device management platform - Jamf School. This platform hides all apps not required for learning from 0825 to 1525.
- It is College policy that all new students have their iPad enrolled on Jamf School.
- From September 2025, all students in Years 7 and 8 will have their device enrolled on Jamf.
Safeguarding : Filtering and Monitoring
- All devices using the College Wi-Fi have filtered internet access, and access is blocked if students access inappropriate content or uncategorised websites, in accordance with our Acceptable Use Agreement.
- Any searches indicating a wellbeing concern are detected and flagged to the Designated Safeguarding Lead or a deputy.
- For more information, refer to our Safeguarding and Child Protection policy and Government of Jersey Safeguarding policy.
b. Tech Lockers
- To minimise the interruption to learning caused by device low battery levels, we have installed small lockers in every classroom, all equipped with battery packs, plugs and charging cables.
- Lockers in the Maths classrooms and Science laboratories also include digital pencils.
c. Policies - high expectations for using technology
Acceptable Use Agreement (AUA)
- All staff and students sign an Acceptable Use Agreement (AUA) for appropriate use of Technology. Please click here to read and sign the student AUA.
- To remind students of the expectations outlined in the AUA, student-friendly posters will be displayed throughout the College as helpful memories aids:
• Tech Etiquette – How to use your device in lessons
• Eleven Steps to Digital Wisdom– Steps to Promote Digital Health
Polityka Wspierania Zachowania Uczniów
- Our Supporting Student Behaviour Policy states that if students who are not enrolled on Jamf school struggle to manage their device appropriately, we will require that their device be enrolled on the platform.
- Bespoke App restrictions will be applied to support students’ focus on learning and healthy digital habits.
No Phones Seen approach
- Phones are not required for learning and, during school hours (08:25 - 15:25), should be switched off and out of sight.
- We strongly recommend that students in Year 7 do not have smartphone and, if a phone is required outside of school hours, parents consider a ‘dumb’ phone instead.
- All students in Years 7 and 8 will switch off their phone and store it in their locker during the school day (0825- 1525).
- For more information, please click here to read our No Phones Seen approach.
