Why Study Religious Studies?
Religious Studies is a fascinating subject that provides a strong introduction to the skills required at university, such as evaluation, debating and critical thinking skills. Religious Studies A level shows employers that you are very employable, especially in careers which demand attention to detail, empathy with other people’s views and he ability to argue fluently (for example careers in medicine, law, politics or journalism).
You do not have to be religious to take this course. It is not a requirement to have taken GCSE Religious Studies. What is needed is an enquiring mind and a thirst to find out about the world

You will study three areas over the course:
Philosophy of Religion
- Plato and Aristotle
- The Arguments for God’s existence
- Evidence for religious experiences
- The problem of evil
Ethics
- Ethical theories
- Applied Ethics: Euthanasia, Business Ethics, Sexual Ethics
- Ethical Language
- Conscience: Freud & Aristotle
Developments in religious thoughts
- What does it mean to be human?
- The afterlife
- Christian moral action
- Feminism
- Richard Dawkins and The God Delusion
- Karl Marx and Marxism

Lessons involve discussion. They will help you gain new skills:
- How to think for yourself and question the norm

- How to put your point across clearly
Examination
The examination consists of three, hour examination, on each of the 3 areas listed above. There is no coursework in this subject.
