Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme
Some of the students currently on the TASS scheme with Miss Howell, JCG's Director of Sport and TASS Dual Career Coordinator (DCC).
Jersey College for Girls (JCG) supports young athletes to achieve their potential in sport and academia. We recognise the importance for young athletes to find the balance in managing their time appropriately and maintaining an academic focus whilst providing opportunities for them to enhance their sporting aspirations.
We are officially accredited as a Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS) Dual Career Centre, a recognition of our ongoing dedication and success in nurturing both the academic and athletic potential of our students. This prestigious accreditation places us among an elite group of institutions that provide tailored support for talented young athletes striving to excel in both their education and sport.
The programme, backed by Sport England, supports young sportspeople on the talent pathway to have the opportunity to gain qualifications alongside their sporting pursuits, follow other interests, as well as further their personal development.
As a Dual Career Accredited school site, JCG will be an important extension of the network of universities that already partner with TASS, delivering core support services - including nutrition, lifestyle support and Psychology - to more than 600 student-athletes each year. We will offer a framework that allows students to thrive into their academic studies while training and competing at the highest levels of sport. Our unique approach includes mentoring, and individualised guidance to ensure student-athletes can successfully balance the demands of their sports and academic studies.
Meanwhile for JCG, the recognition of becoming a TASS Dual Career Accredited Site is expected to be beneficial by attracting a greater number of talented athletes and building connections with other local sporting institutions.
Student-athletes will gain knowledge from specific workshops including but not exclusive to nutrition, growth mindset, sport psychology, athlete wellbeing, time management and anti-doping. This will encourage athletes to learn and develop competencies and life skills needed to pursue a Dual Career at an earlier age.
We would love our student-athletes to achieve their potential in sport and academia to encourage each individual to develop their confidence, resilience and organisational skills. It would enable student-athletes to find the balance in managing their time appropriately.
A JCG, we are proud to support the next generation of sporting talent, equipping them with the skills, resilience, and education needed to achieve greatness in both their chosen sport and future career paths.
If you are 16+ and playing sport at a high level e.g. Regional or National and interested in getting the support you need to excel both in your sport and studies, please contact Katie Howell, the TASS Dual Career Coordinator (DCC): [email protected]

Student profiles
Erin (Year 13)
"I play for Jersey women's cricket and am a leg spin bowler. I started playing cricket in year 6 and was lucky enough to play for the women's team in the interinsular that year. My first tour was in year 7 where we went to France and played France, Austria and Norway and due to our relative success in the tournament, it started a change in cricket in Jersey making it more professional. This year we have the division two tournament in Rome, from which we are hoping to qualify for division one later in the year."
Bekah (Year 11)
I play football for Jersey Women, Jersey Bulls and Jersey Wanderers. I started playing football at 6 and since then due to my hard work, enjoyment of the game and support from my coaches I have been able to improve and develop my football ability. I am now planning to move to England next year to play for an academy.
Olivia (Year 12)
"I have been playing cricket since year 6 and I am a medium pace bowler. I started off in the Lionesses programme pathway from U11s to U15s. I recently progressed to the Women’s team, making my debut for them in December 2024 in Malaga at the ECN Challenger Division Tournament which we won. Coming up we have an ICC Quad series in Cyprus in April as well as the Div 2 Europe Qualifier in Italy in May."
Saffron (Year 12)
"I was introduced to gymnastics at the age of 3 as I never keep still and was always copying my brother doing handstands and forward rolls. I started training from one hour a week building up to 15 hours a week by age 11. At the age of 8, I started competing at British Gymnastics Regional grades, going from grade 6 to grade 1, then British National grade 2.
I am now currently training for IGA National level 3 after competing at IGA National level 4 last year. This summer I am representing Jersey in the Island Games in Orkney. This will be my first time competing at an International level. I am over the moon about this and looking forward to having a fantastic time gaining lots of valuable experience.
My favourite event in gymnastics is the beam which is not usually many people's favourite, this shows a quirky side to me. My favourite memory from gymnastics would be winning the Miss Quatro competition in British Regional grade 1 as it showed to me that all my hard work had payed off."
Siena (Year 12)
"I have been taking part in triathlon for over 10 years, I started out at a charity triathlon, aged 7, and have since progressed to being a part of the England next generation team and have represented Jersey at both the Youth Commonwealth games and the Island games. A lot of my competitions take place across the UK as a part of the national series, where points are gained from each race and an overall ranking secured at the end of the season.
My 2025 season starts at the end of March, with the first national race. This year my aim is to consistently compete within the top 5 on the national series, but also gain more experience racing internationally, one of which is in America for their national qualifier."
Hannah (Year 12)
"Artistic roller skating is similar to figure skating but it is performed on quad skates rather than ice skates. It is a mix of sport, dance and art performed on a smooth floor and includes spins, jumps and fluid movement which is choreographed to music.
I have been artistic roller skating since the age of seven, competing at a national level since I was nine and last year I became Vice British Champion. I have represented Great Britain at the Cup of Europe in Croatia and at the 2024 European Championships in Portugal.
I have recently been selected to compete with Team GB at the World International Series in Argentina and Italy.
TASS has helped me to organise my time between training and studying and I have learned how healthy nutrition fuels the body for physical activity."
Bo (Year 12)
"I have been swimming for the past 10 years. During this time, I have learnt commitment, sacrifice and perseverance. Whilst a Tigers swimming club, I was selected to be club captain, which is a position I take very seriously as I strive to be role model for the younger generation of swimmers. Club captain have given me newfound skills and opportunities such as leadership, friendships, and responsibility. Throughout my time swimming, I've been lucky enough to attend competitions all over the UK whether it be counties, regionals, or nationals. In the Summer of 2023 and 2024 I qualified for English Nationals. With the support of my fellow teammates, coaches, and parents I was able to final, PB and complete a wide variety of my events from 50 to 800 metres. As of right now, I am aiming for the 2025 Orkney Island Games team which gets announced at the beginning of April, the games are being held during mid-July.
