The JCG Foundation 140th Anniversary Bursary appeal

Dear Parents

The JCG Foundation 140th Anniversary Bursary (Financial Assistance) appeal

During the last 140 years the College (comprising JCP & JCG), and society, has changed immeasurably, but at its core the same values on which it was founded remain - to enable our students to achieve outstanding academic success and, more importantly, nurture someone who is happy, well-mannered and able to find fulfilment in their service to others.

The Foundation is a charitable trust and exists with the sole intent to increase the amount of financial assistance available to new, and current students, whether that is from one-off donations, running Little Leopards and Polyphony, or receiving legacies or ongoing contributions.

We know that many parents make sacrifices to send their children to our College. Currently 8% of those who attend the College receive financial assistance and, as part of the 140th celebrations, the JCG Foundation is fundraising to increase that number.

Our hope is to raise £140,000.00, all of which will go directly into bursaries supporting bright, remarkable students who without assistance would not be able to attend the College.

We hope that you will consider giving a donation, whether small, large, or ongoing, to enable the College be open to all, and to really make a difference to someone’s life, enhance social mobility and bring genuine change for families.

There are various ways to make a donation, from a one-off donation, sponsoring a student through their education or leaving a legacy in your Will. We can also claim tax relief on all donations.

Please follow this link for more information on making a donation

Alternatively, please do contact me, c.howarth@jcg.sch.je, in confidence, if you are interested in sponsoring a student throughout her College life. We are grateful to the generous individuals who are already doing this.

Here is the difference your donation could make:

‘Every parent wants the best for their child. It was only because of the generosity of a year-on-year bursary this was possible for us in terms of our daughter’s secondary education. The values of Jersey College for Girls are ‘aspire, inquire, excel and belong’. These values underpin this school and we have seen them evidenced throughout our daughter’s education. She was encouraged to reach for her best. She was challenged to think differently and grow beyond her potential. We are so proud of her achievements and the woman she has become, although we may be biased! Finally, she participated fully in the life of JCG, formed wonderful friendships and has a catalogue of lasting memories. Our daughter is now at university; the first in our family to do so. All this made was possible because my daughter received a bursary – it transformed her life and ours too.’

Former Parent of JCG student receiving a bursary:

I have been supported with a bursary throughout my time at JCG. Studying at JCG has opened up an incredible world of opportunities to me, and I have met a wealth of wonderful people along the way. 1 have been academically challenged and pushed to explore new subjects and ways of thinking, thus preparing me for university life. JCG has taught me the value of being inquisitive and challenging the status quo, and has filled me with pride and confidence in my role as a young woman in this changing world that we live in. Because of the bursary, 1 have been able to go on trips to enrich my academic work and broaden my mindset, as well as making endless memories along the way. From helping at Open Evenings, taking part in House events to joining political debate groups, I have cherished my time at JCG and all the activities I have been able to do. I feel so grateful to have cultivated such special relationships with my peers and the incredible teachers at JCG, and I know that I will always be grateful for the values that my teachers have instilled in me.

It is only through being at JCG that I have discovered my interest in politics and humanitarian issues, and this has filled me with a determination to work in a job that ensures that the political system and political support is accessible to everyone, regardless of gender, race or economic status. I do not believe that your background should ever be a barrier to your success, and this is why having a bursary has meant so much to me.

Former student now at university (first in her family to do so)
